Dehesa Charter School
is a K-12 publicly-funded school with a mission to provide personalized learning so that students may develop skills and knowledge necessary for success in an ever-changing world. With 1200 students throughout San Diego, Riverside, and Orange Counties, no two students' learning plans are the same. Teachers customize curriculum and instruction through the use of a learning styles profile and a variety of resources. Students are encouraged to use primary and community resources, utilize their talents and interests, and connect with mentors to make learning meaningful and memorable.
novacek_terriTerri Novacek, Executive Director of Dehesa Charter School, has worked in education nearly thirty years in a variety of settings and with all grade levels. The impact of a personalized approach to education became evident to her when she resigned from teaching after ten years in the classroom to run her own tutoring business and home-school her own children. As a school administrator, she is passionate about cultivating a learning community where the teacher serves as a "guide by the side" rather than "sage on the stage" to empower students to take the lead in their learning.
